Vegan Gluten Free Crumble
Plum and pear crumble – The perfect winter dessert
It was snowing like mad yesterday. B and I are taking some time out in the hills of Scotland. Whilst wonderfully beautiful, it’s cold. I needed a dessert to warm me up. I had a lot of plums and pears from the local grocer. What better way to use up this winter fruit than my vegan gluten free crumble, full of stewed plums and pears.
I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, but I like desserts that border the savoury-sweet. Cinnamon has to be one of my favourite spices to bake with…or cook with. It has that perfect balance of savoury-sweet I look for in a dessert.
The smell whilst this dessert was baking was incredible. It filled the air with a sweet warmth and filled my heart with nostalgia.
This recipe has been made vegan and gluten free, but feel free to swap out for whatever fruit, sweetener or flour you have in the house. It’s very forgiving in that you don’t have to be exact with your measurements…my kind of food.
Sitting in the conservatory, watching the fluffy snowflakes dance their way onto the ground, and eating a sumptuously warm, savoury-sweet pot of goodness. What could be better?

Vegan Gluten Free Crumble | Plums and PearsPrint Recipe
- 1 cup gluten free oats
- 2 tablespoons gluten free flour (1 for the crumble and 1 for the fruit)
- 3 tablespoons margarine/coconut oil (2 for the crumble and 1 for the fruit)
- 2 tablespoons sugar (1 for the crumble and one 1 the fruit)
- 8 purple plums, stones removed and chopped
- 4 pears, cores removed and chopped
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- zest of 1 lemon
- juice of 1/2 a lemon
Preheat over to 190.
For the Crumble: Add oats, 1 tablespoon gluten free flour, 2 tablespoons margarine and 1 tablespoon sugar to a bowl and combine with your fingers until everything comes together with a crumbly texture.
For the Fruit: Add 1 tablespoon of margarine to a pot and melt on a medium heat.
Add the plums and pears, 1 tablespoon of sugar, cinnamon, the lemon zest, and lemon juice and cook until the fruit is soft, about 5-7 minutes
Add 1 tablespoon of gluten free flour and cook for a minute longer.
Transfer the fruit mixture to 6 greased ramekins.
Add the crumble mixture on top.
Place on a baking tray and bake for 40 minutes until the crumble is golden brown.
I used individual ramekins, but you can use and baking dish that you have.
